A double header between Hanwha Eagles and KT Wiz held at Daejeon Baseball Stadium on the 17th. It started at 2pm and ended at 11:26pm. During the Hanwha attack in the bottom of the 5th inning of Game 2, the game was stopped due to sudden heavy rain. The rain suddenly poured down and the tarp could not properly cover the ground. It took a whopping 3 hours and 24 minutes for the rain to stop and ground maintenance to be completed. It was the longest suspension in history. The game resumed at 9:57 p.m.메이저놀이터
The previous record also came in the Daejeon-Hanwha match.
On July 23rd last year, rain poured down during KT’s attack in the top of the 8th inning. The game was stopped with KT leading 5-3, but resumed after 1 hour and 56 minutes. However, soon after the game started, rain poured again and a rain cold game was declared.
On the first day of the deadly nine-game series, the joys and sorrows of both teams were dramatically different. KT won both games and won three games in a row.
How did the coaches of both teams spend the time when the game was stopped?
Hanwha manager Choi Won-ho said, “We discussed the management of the pitching staff inside.” It is a forced march of 9 games in 8 days. There are many concerns such as starting rotation and bullpen management. From Hanwha’s perspective, it would have been nice if it had been a no game.
Manager Lee Kang-cheol said, “I watched the LG Twins and SSG Landers game (a double header) broadcast on TV. Even though the second game ended, we were still maintaining the ground.” Coach Lee said, “It was a double header with a foreign ‘one-two punch’, so I watched the game with trepidation.” This means that it was a game that must be captured. It happened as director Lee wanted.
