The Samsung Lions kicked off the Memorial Day series with a sweep of the NC Dinos, led by Seung-hwan Oh, who reached the 500-save milestone in his Korean-American career.
In the first game of a three-game midweek series against the NC Dinos at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu on Saturday afternoon, the Samsung Lions used a focused approach at the plate to take advantage of their opponent’s starting wideouts to win 9-6.
After scoring four runs in the first inning, Samsung took a comfortable lead and although NC, who has been on a roll of late, rallied, 안전놀이터 the team was led by Kang Min-ho, who had three hits, including the winning run, and Oh Jae-il, Lee Jae-hyun, and Kim Ho-jae, who each had two hits.
On the mound, Baek Jung-hyun, the winning pitcher, and Hong Jung-woo and Lee Seung-hyun pitched well.
In the ninth inning with a three-run lead, Oh Seung-hwan pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record his eighth save of the season and celebrate the team’s victory with 500 saves, tying the American and Japanese records.
Seung-hwan Oh made Korean baseball history with his 500th save, which includes 378 saves in the KBO, 80 in Japan and 42 in the major leagues.
Setting the tone with a home victory on Memorial Day, Samsung will look to extend their winning streak and sweep the series in Game 2 on Sunday with new fifth starter Kim Dae-woo.
